Early Morning Realization

This morning as usual I rose before 3am for bathing and chanting Hare Krishna on my japa beads.  Then I woke Sri Sri Radha Damodar and offered them Mangala Arati at 4:30am.  Next I offered arati to Srimati Tulasi devi and cooked the breakfast offering for Sri Sri Radha Damodar.  Then it was out the door on a morning walk to finish my 16 rounds and get some healthy exercise.

Even though I had been up for three hours blissfully absorbing my mind in Krishna consciousness I could see in the houses and up and down the street that no lights were on yet.  Everyone was still sleeping.   They will rise at the last minute just in enough time to throw a quick breakfast down their throats and take their place in line in the morning traffic jam.

What a pathetic existence they have.  If they only could realize the sweet unlimited nectar of Krishna consciousness.  How can I ever make them understand that they don't have to continue suffering like this?   What are they working so hard for?  Simply for old age, disease,  death.  This is their reward.  Krishna can give them a much better reward, if they are willing to take it:  eternity, knowledge, and bliss.  But for the most part they are not interested.

How Can I Know Who My Guru Is?

All glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga!!!!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!!!

Respected Sankarshan Das Adhikari Prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

Can you please guide me how I can know who my guru is, and what should be my approach?  Please help me with this.

A guru knows his disciples beyond the veil of time, so will my Gurudeva recognize me?

Your eternal servant,

Gautam

For the Pleasure of Krishna

My Dear Gautam,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am very pleased with your inquiry. To know who is your guru is the most important question.

Of course your adi-guru, your original spiritual master, is Krishna, and anyone who purely gives you Krishna is also your spiritual master.

The greatest distributor of Krishna consciousness in the history of the world is His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. So he is certainly your guru.

And that person who is fully surrendered at the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and has dedicated his life fully for awakening the entire world to the sublime mercy of Srila Prabhupada and Sri Krishna is certainly also your guru.

If you can find such a person you may certainly accept him as your spiritual master and surrender fully at his lotus feet. Krishna prescribes how should approach him:

tad viddhi pranipatena
pariprasnena sevaya
upadeksyanti te jnanam
jnaninas tattva-darsinah

"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth."
Bhagavad-gita 4.34

Your guru will naturally recognize you, but only according to the degree of your surrender. Just as Krishna rewards you according to your degree of surrender, the spiritual master also rewards you according to the degree of your surrender. Disciple means discipline. So if you want to be fully recognized as a disciple, you must fully discipline your senses by engaging them fully in Krishna's service.

Hoping this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood,
Your eternal well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari
